Howard Berger Co. Manages Long Lead Times with Thrive Technologies
Atlanta, GA, August 14th, 2007 —
Thrive Technologies, Inc, announced today that Howard Berger Co., based
in Monroe Township, New Jersey, has implemented Thrive’s ClearDay Web
software to improve their inventory performance. Thrive Technologies is a
leading provider of web based inventory performance systems for distribution
intensive companies.
Howard Berger Company (HBC) was founded in 1971
and has grown into a leading hardware distributor through internal growth of
private label businesses such as Guard Security locks, as well as
acquisitions in categories such as brooms, brushes, housewares, hardware,
plumbing, non-toxic pest control, automotive and pet products. Just in the
plumbing category alone, HBC’s private label SFS/AquaPlumb product line now
includes over 8500 plumbing specialties and offers over 700 packaged
plumbing products.
Howard Berger sells to leading retailers, discount stores, home centers,
wholesalers, drug and food chains, catalog companies, municipalities, and
hardware stores worldwide. With an impressive supply chain that spans the
globe, HBC has the need to keep their large product assortment in stock for
their customers in spite of the often long lead times. Howard Berger’s Chief
Operating Officer Bill Underwood was looking for an advanced replenishment
system that would work with their Butler & Curless ERP system, analyze their
demand requirements by item, optimize safety stock
levels by desired service levels, recommend optimal orders, and alert them
to any potential issues.
“Dealing with the largest retailers in the world, we needed a system that
could help us plan demand and manage our inventory based on our strategic
plans, yet make life easier for our buyers. With our strong growth, we also
needed a system that will help us scale into the future.
The
folks at Thrive have done an excellent job working with us on our
requirements, providing excellent support, and have demonstrated a strong
domain expertise in the science of advanced replenishment buying,” stated
Mr. Underwood.
Thrive’s software, called ClearDay Web, allows companies to define their
strategic service and profitability goals in the software, and then
translates those goals into daily tactical inventory replenishment. For each
item that a company stocks, ClearDay Web analyzes over 40 variables daily
that could impact demand or supply, such as seasonality, promotions, vendor
discounts, or changes in lead times. The software alerts buyers before
issues occur (eg. stock-outs, excess stock) while the user still has time to
prevent the problem. Thrive customers typically reduce their inventory as a
percentage of revenues by at least 15% while reducing stock-outs.
